PAT Testing

Portable Appliance Testing is basically the inspection and testing of electrical equipment that is attached to the electrical circuit of a building.

This includes items that are directly plugged into a socket (kettle, iron, microwave etc) as well as things that may be wired into a spur such as cooker or sometimes fridges and washing machines.

The inspection and testing is to check the safety of the appliance - a little like an MOT and it is up to the duty holder/ responsible person (you) to decide on the frequency of the testing. This decision is NOT down to the tester so PASS labels no longer have a retest date on them. There are guidelines as to the frequency of testing and in many cases this can be several years between each test.
